Privacy Policy

1. Who is responsible

2. Scope
This policy covers the TunnelOFF browser extension (available for Chrome, Edge and Firefox) and this website.
3. The extension
TunnelOFF runs entirely inside your browser. It reads the structure of the page you are looking at to draw the focus overlay and to compute the Noise Score. That happens on your device. Page content, URLs and browsing data never leave it.
- No personal data is collected, transmitted, sold or shared.
- No analytics, no remote code, no accounts on our side. The only network requests the extension makes are the device registration and subscription check described in section 4.
- We cannot see which pages you visit, your history or what you read.
The extension stores the following in your browser's local extension storage, never synced, and deletes it when you uninstall:
- Five settings:
fullscreenEnabled,autoActivateAllSites,mothCursorEnabled,mothCursorThreshold,noiseMarkersEnabled. - A numeric Noise Score per open tab (
noiseScore_<tabId>), deleted when the tab closes. - Your license key and the device ID Polar assigned to this browser, if you entered a key.
Our use of information received from browser APIs and web pages adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
4. Subscription validation
TunnelOFF is sold as a subscription through Polar Software Inc. (polar.sh). Checkout and payment happen on Polar's site; we never see your payment details. When you enter your license key in the extension, it registers this browser with Polar as one of your devices: it sends the key and a short device label such as “Chrome on macOS”, and Polar returns a device ID that the extension keeps. Afterwards the extension periodically sends the key and that device ID to Polar's API to confirm the subscription is still active. Nothing else is sent: no page content, no URL, no browsing data. Your subscription allows a limited number of devices; you can see and remove them in Polar's customer portal. Legal basis: performance of the contract with you (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Polar processes the request under its own privacy policy.
5. The optional “Always on for every website” permission
By default the extension only runs on a page when you activate it. If you switch on “Always on for every website”, your browser asks you to grant access to all websites. That access is used solely to run the same local overlay automatically. It is requested only when you turn the option on, and you can revoke it at any time in your browser's extension settings.
6. Your controls
- Switch off “Always on” in the extension popup.
- Revoke the website permission in your browser's extension settings.
- Uninstall the extension to delete everything it stored, including your license key. Your subscription and your registered devices are managed in Polar's customer portal; uninstalling does not remove the device there.
7. This website
This site is hosted by Vercel Inc., USA. To deliver the page and for security, Vercel processes connection data (IP address, user agent, timestamps) in server logs. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in operating the site (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Vercel is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, and its data processing agreement includes the EU standard contractual clauses.
The site sets no cookies and uses no analytics, no third-party fonts and no embeds. The demo video is served from this site.
8. Contact by email
If you email us, we process what you send us to answer you. We keep the correspondence until your request is resolved and for up to two years afterwards, then delete it.
9. Your rights
You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict and port your personal data, and to object to its processing. You can complain to a supervisory authority: in Germany the Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz und die Informationsfreiheit Baden-Württemberg; in the UK the ICO; in Canada the Office of the Privacy Commissioner; in Australia the OAIC. Apart from the license key, the extension collects no personal data. Purchase data is held by Polar; you can exercise your rights there or by emailing us.
10. Country-specific notes
- USA / California: We do not sell or share personal information. We do not collect it.
- United Kingdom: UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 give you the same rights as above.
- Canada: We collect no personal information through the extension. Privacy questions: support@tunneloff.com.
- Australia: We handle data in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.
11. Children
TunnelOFF is not directed at children under 16 and collects no personal data beyond the license key.
12. Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is published here with a new effective date.
